I just read the Herald's coverage of the resorative 'justice' session and was dismayed, but not surprised, to see no mention of the vocal supporters of Mr. Shaw. So I sent them this letter ...

Dear Sir,

In your coverage of the restorative justice session in Onehunga on the 25th (regarding the felling of a tree by Mr. Shaw), you neglected to mention that not all those attending the meeting were there to pillory Mr. Shaw.

I attended that meeting to provide Mr. Shaw with moral support, sanction his actions, and defend him against the legalized lynch mob arrayed against him that night. There were at least two others who spoke in his defense, criticising the morality of both the prosecution against him, and the underlying laws which made it possible.

Yours sincerely,
Duncan Bayne

The Herld printed it yesterday ...

... I've already received one message on my answering machine from a Scottish man, sounding rather intoxicated, who criticised me for supporting Shaw, and ended his message with "stick that in your pipe and smoke it."
